Oneself and Others

If a person cares for others' happiness when oneself is suffering, some people advise, "You should care for your own happiness than that of others." Is this true? The correct answer is that we should care for others' happiness even more in such a case. Because, if we care only for our happiness, our consciousness becomes inward, our mind becomes self-centered and narrower, our self-confidence will be lost, our heart will be closed, our trust will be lost, fear will arise, loneliness and insecurity and anxiety will arise, so our attempt will be the tail wagging the dog. If we care for others's happiness, the exact opposite things will occur and everything will be guided in the direction of the positive.

Definition of Love & Compassion

Please refer to URL below for a very precious interactive session with H.H. the Dalai Lama & Rev. Dada J.P., a spiritual leader and head of the Sadhu Vaswani Mission, held yesterday in India.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5k3g9Tv-ksI
Both wise men showed their view on definition of Love & Compassion as follows:
1. "3 types of Love" by Rev. Dada J.P. Vaswani:
from 1:03:00 to 1:06:08
2. "2 levels of Compassion" by H.H. the Dalai Lama:
from 2:15:35 to 2:17:50
Both of them explained about the definition of Love & Compassion by 3 minutes and I found my view (URL below) based on Dalai Lama's view is exactly the same as Dada's view. This proves that Moral Ethics is universal.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5k3g9Tv-ksI

Subtle consciousness

What is subtle consciousness? My guess was that subtle consciousness must be something extremely difficult to master. For example, in Buddhism: the attainment of enlightenment through long-term meditations and ascetic practices, in Christianity: the attainment to God (pure divine nature). Because our consciousness is invisible and intangible, it is too early yet to prove scientifically like body and mind (brain). The present stage is that neuroscience has just begun to elucidate the mechanism of emotions, so the day when subtle consciousness is proven scientifically will be far ahead.

However, my reasoning is that subtle consciousness means 'Universal Moral Ethics', namely, 'Infinite Altruism', or 'Reason', or 'Compassion' according to the following information. If so, subtle consciousness may be so simple.
1) 'Emptiness and Selflessness' preached by Buddha
2) 'Commentary on Wisdom and Infinite altruism' by
Nagarjuna, Shantideva and other 17 Nalanda masters
3) 'Purity of the divine nature' preached by Meister
Eckhart
4) 'Mental projection' explained by Aaron T. Beck
5) Scientific findings on 'Hippocampus' by
neuroscientists
6) Mechanism of 'Flash memory'
7) Structures of 'Higgs particle'
Cf. http://www.slideshare.net/compassion5151/spacetime-continuum

Hippocampus & Subtle consciousness

I mentioned that I am interested in the relationship between the memory in the hippocampus and the record imprinted in the subtle consciousness. So, I will explain the outline.

Hippocampus is the organ at the back of the brain involved in memory, and it can log experience to death from birth, but if we die, the brain as well as the skin and flesh will rot and the memory will also disappear. However, I guess that the memory stored in the hippocampus will be rewritten in an instant into subtle consciousness at the time of death. Because, I believe that our consciousness will not die even though the body and mind (ie, brain) die.

People say that all of the lifetime experiences are supposed to be shown to each human like a revolving lantern in the death process. Specifically, I guess that the memory stored in the hippocampus is rewrited into subtle consciousness (ie. imprinted on subtle consciousness as a record) while it is being played.  I also guess that its mechanism is just like a flash memory.

And then it is considered that our subtle consciousness and the hippocampus at the back of our brain are combined at the time of our birth and death and the information is transmitted. When we are born, subtle consciousness enters into the fertilized egg at the timing of somewhere between fertilization and birth, and connects with a new brain to transmit information (for initial setting) but I predict that the memory of our previous life is to be erased (maybe by ultraviolet irradiation). When we die, subtle consciousness connects to the dying brain and is considered to record the information as described above.
Cf. http://www.slideshare.net/compassion5151/spacetime-continuum

Bloodshed & Religion

"From time to time it is also important that religious leaders get together to show that in spirituality we share a message of peace. Because history is marked by incidents of conflict and bloodshed in the name of religion, it is important to work for and to demonstrate harmony among our spiritual traditions." (From His Holiness the Dalai Lama's facebook on July 22, 2013)

Love Is Blind!

I don't know why H.H. the Dalai Lama surprised the interviewer by saying that gay people cannot reach enlightenment in the CBC radio interview at Toronto in October, 2010. But he must have said so because Janis Ian (a famous singer of "Love Is Blind" ) wrote it in her Facebook according to Google search. I guess the reason why Dalai Lama said so, is because gay, or ordinary people's love is usually attachment, or obsession, or addiction and is not genuine compassion, or altruistic love, or unconditional love. Attachment arises from ignorance of interdependence, which means that attached people could never reach enlightenment due to lack of wisdom. As Meister Eckhart said, "When I preach, I usually speak of detachment and say that a man should be empty of self and all things", we have to be detached to see the reality through holistic view, which is the path to enlightenment. And attached love, or addicted love is sensory and emotional level satisfaction and is not mental or conscious level deep satisfaction. Yes, Love Is Blind!

Christianity & Buddhism

I understand all major religions are based on the same universal moral ethics, so there must be a lot of similar philosophy and practices among major religions. Buddhism denies independent or absolute existence which is God or atman, but admits interdependent existence, because the ultimate truth on this planet is interdependence and the ignorance of this truth causes sufferings due to self-grasping. I guess that this concept can't be accepted by theistic religion believers. However, I found Meister Eckhart's message as follows:
"When I preach, I usually speak of detachment and say that a man should be empty of self and all things; and secondly, that he should be reconstructed in the simple good that God is; and thirdly, that he should consider the great aristocracy which God has set up in the soul, such that by means of it man may wonderfully attain to God; and fourthly, of the purity of the divine nature."
His message is very interesting because it is very similar to Buddhist psychological core principle if his word 'God' is replaced by Buddhist's 'Subtle consciousness'. And he made practical sermons on spiritual/psychological transformation to guide his flock, as well as monks and nuns. I guess that's why H.H. the Dalai Lama said that this man was enlightened.
Cf. http://www.slideshare.net/compassion5151/self-as-mere-designation

Attachment & Business chance

We often see people cycling during the Tour de France racing, and we notice that golf population increases during The Open match, but these are the same as the sense of feeling like the hero after seeing the movies of Bruce Lee. This behavior is due to the attachment (obsession) and is exploited in business. Because people who cling to a certain object are already biased,  they would buy the related products by just one push in advertising. Because attachment (obsession) is addiction, they will be swindled very easily. Moreover, because the foolish people rejoice with rather a good mood, without realizing that they are fitted into the trap, they fall an easy victim to the crafty merchant. They are exploited skillfully that they can't see the reality because everything would look good once they come to love. Exploitation by attachment (obsession) is something cute yet, but it is not an exaggeration to say that the lavished praise by exploitation of greed and the tickling the vanity by exploitation of arrogance, are white collar crimes. Attachment (obsession), greed and arrogance are self-centered mind which are disturbing mind caused by ignorance of interdependence. Could you understand how important it is for you to master the wisdom of interdependence?

Luxury

Thou shalt abstain from the luxury! Because luxury is a sign of self-centered arrogance and greed. If the wealth is redistributed to others without monopolizing, many people who suffer from poverty will be saved. The source of wealth is mostly an unfair profit from the poor, so we should rather use the word of 'return' than 'redistribution'. The poor has the right to regain the wealth because the wealth was originally supposed to be gained by them but was robbed by the crafty rich. After all, those who have too much economic value will be forced to pay spiritual value, so it will be zero-sum by the law of positive and negative ...

Real Emptiness

Some of the Japanese Buddhism explain about Emptiness as "unsubstantial" or "nothing", but I guess that this is due to misunderstanding. Real Emptiness means "Absence of independent existence, namely, Interdependence" which is the ultimate truth of this planet. In other words, Real Emptiness means "there is no independent existence but there is interdependent existence." And understanding this ultimate truth is wisdom. On the other hand, ignorance which doesn't understand this ultimate truth, causes disturbing mind such as attachment (obsession) and anger. And the disturbing mind causes mental projection which creates illusion and delusion, that it can be seen as if non-reality is happening in reality. In short, it is a fiction by prejudice or biased view. Some of the Japanese Buddhism which explain about Emptiness as "unsubstantial" or "nothing", may have misunderstood Emptiness as illusion and delusion. If so, the misunderstood Emptiness is not the wisdom and can not generate compassion.

Shortcut of enlightenment

Special meditation techniques were developed in Tantric practice and yoga, but its purpose is a shortcut of enlightenment. It is common that our efforts will rather result in failure with the loss if we try to gain benefits by a shortcut, so life isn't as easy as we think. Those who choose a shortcut of enlightenment by meditation techniques tend to be self-serving from altruistic purposes all too soon. In that case, the shortcut will turn out to be the long way and confuse the order of things on the contrary. We can say that it is the requirement for enlightenment that we come to conviction and make a pledge to ourselves (Recombination of gene in our brain may occur at this point). After all, there is no shortcut to enlightenment.
Cf. http://www.slideshare.net/compassion5151/approach-of-four-noble-truths-heart-sutra

Law of Causality

Our imprinted previous karma and our new actions will cause consequences. We can't change our previous karma (actions). Therefore, our new actions are very important and will decide our destinies. If our new actions are negative due to delusions through mental projection by attachment and anger, our destinies won't be bright. If our new actions are positive thanks to insights through holistic view by calm mind, our destinies will be bright.

Compassion in business

I think compassion is always effective in relation with customers and colleagues but may not be always effective in relation with competitors. When we analyze the effectiveness in relation with competitors, we need to think about both economic value and spiritual value. If we are compassionate to competitors, negative economic value may be created for us. In this case, positive spiritual value is always created for both sides, and positive economic value may be created for competitors. If we are not compassionate to competitors, positive economic value may be created for us. In this case, negative spiritual value is always created for both sides, and negative economic value may be created for competitors. Which will you choose? There is one more option which is that we practice so-so compassion to competitors. In this case, so-so economic value and so-so spiritual value is always created for both sides. Therefore, we can say that both side's interest is well balanced.
